Arid Island (Rakitu)
Arid Island, on the Eastern side of Gt Barrier, a destination in it's own right. There are no shops, no shore accommodation, but groups of (up to) four can book RnR to experience this magical Isle. Once owned by Bryce Rope and now under the care of DoC, Rakitu is isolated and beautiful.
The Rope family still have houses on the Island and visit regularly, but visitors are welcome to walk on the island and enjoy the rugged beauty of Arid Island....leaving just footprints.
