Gt Barrier Island
Our biggest outer gulf island, Gt Barrier is best visited overnight or longer, there is so much to do if you wish to hire a car.. you can explore ashore, or stay at one of the accommodations on the island, or just stay on RnR..over to you... the Broken Islands is a treasure, as is Catherine Bay with the majestic ancient Pohutakawa there..... (you will be amazed at it's branches), or cruise past the coppermine and marvel at the effort those miners of years gone by who dug the shafts out of solid rock. Maybe you would like to visit Smokehouse Bay... light the fire and take a hot bath... or buy a burger at Fitzroys amazing burger bar. If you are in to natural Kanuka and Manuka balms, Kauri Gold is well worth a visit too.
