Drift fishing is a method that allows your bait to cover plenty of ground and this is where having a skipper who knows when conditions are right is important. However, anglers play an important role too. there are several fishing techniques which can be employed while drift fishing and anglers will be fishing from the same side of the boat, so lines are on the windward side... or the side the current is coming from. Methods such as slow-jigging, bait fishing or live baiting, need to be managed so as not to result in tangled lines. sinker weights may need to be ajusted for the speed the boat is drifting so they get down. The skipper will let you know when you can get your bait in the water... and this is always after the boat has stopped and the props are not turning, so don’t start dropping rigs down until the boat has started drifting, otherwise one line can collect the others or the prop, and create a big mess.If someone hooks a good fish, then it's best if the others pull their lines in so the hooked fish can be brought in. Big fish can create a big tangle and undoing those takes up precious fishing time.
