Strayline Fishing
Strayline fishing is a fishing methods we recommend aboard RnR. it's a very effective technique and works well on Snapper and Kingi, but is effective with many species. If you do not have a suitable setup, we have hire rods aboard RnR ready to go, rigged for straylining. We recommend Salty Dog Bait and can have this ready on board when you arrive. Let us know if you are unsure what to buy and you are welcome to bring your own bait too. Wayne can show you how to rig baits so they are presented well which is important for a successful strike rate.As you feed out your line, be alert for changes that might indicate you have reached the bottom, or a fish has picked up your bait. it's always a good idea to just wait a bit, maybe count to five before striking.
Always ask the skipper how deep you are fishing in as the outer Hauraki Gulf is much deeper than you may be used to... sometimes 200 or more metres deep.
If you are bringing your own gear, make sure you have plenty of good line on your reel and that it's not old and brittle.
